Artist bio

I am a violinist and teacher who works in the area of disability services. My art is inspired by interactions with people in ordinary situations, the seemingly mundane routines of life..
Being a fan of books and movies about the apocalypse or dystopian futures finds its way into my art. I am very interested in small details, zooming in on a micro part of a bigger picture. I’m also fascinated with spaces “in limbo” or frozen in time: laundromats, abandoned buildings, bus stops.
I like to paint in oil paints and am drawn to textures, movement and colour and generally paint very intuitively. My other favourite art to make is dry point etchings.
Apart from making art or playing violin, my spare time is spent reading and hanging out with my 15 yr old calico cat, Honey.

I create art because...

it is my way of processing and providing a physical avenue for emotions. It's a cliche to say but drawing and painting really do puyt me in the state of 'flow'.

When you look at my art, the thing I want you to feel is...

Something familiar or recognisable reflected back at you.

The thing I most want to say to non-artists is...

I hope my art has something in it that you can relate to.

I believe art is an important part of our lives because...

It makes us feel connected to something outside of ourselves and as a result, less isolated or lonely with the possibility that others too feel the same way we do.
