Tom Polacheck
Artist bio
Tom Polacheck is an artist/photographer residing in Tasmania He is interested in how the perspective provided by the camera enhances and challenges conceptions of reality and our place within it (both personally and as a species). His love of photography stem from early childhood when he first experienced the wonder of a simple box camera and a primitive basement darkroom. In 2019, he experienced firsthand the magic of taking aerial photographs. Since that point, aerial photograph has formed a major focus of his work. He uses both small planes and drones to do this. Tom has undertaken extensive sole 4x4 journeys in the interior and along the coast of the Australian contentment. Such immersive explorations allowed him to develop insights into both the ancient dreaming stories and the level of human interconnection to the landscape. In his works he seeks to represent the feelings of wonder, awe and beauty that he experienced in these wanderings and within his home state of Tasmania.
